In 1978, I attended a workshop given by Peter Caddy and David Spangler from the Findhorn community, which is located on the north shore of Scotland. There the members live in conscious cooperation with nature.  By receiving messages from the spirits of the plants, they grow astounding vegetables and present an example that all life has consciousness and intelligence. This was one of the most important events of my life and inspired me to live the truth:

We are All One with Nature.

From that moment, I gradually opened my awareness to the messages of animals and plants. Since early childhood, I had wanted this closeness with nature. Over the years, wild things found their way to our doorstep. We adopted a baby squirrel who fell out of his nest and revealed how we are all alike, though wearing different costumes. An orphaned baby raccoon allowed us to train with her as she skillfully and patiently directed the details of her rearing. When our beloved dog developed bone cancer, I was able to confer with him about the timing of his death.

The experiences of direct contact with the animals revealed a far broader view of life, death, and the mysteries of existence than I could even imagine.  The wisdom, healing, and inspiration I received from the creatures has always left me humbled and filled with awe.

In these pages you will meet a wild animal who sacrificed her life for me as my life force seeped away. A loyal horse will offer you wisdom that just makes good horse sense, and you will encounter a rabbit who requested that his story be told in this book.
